We'll Keep a Welcome…

Assembly Elections 2007

The Manifesto campaign to help improve the lives of refugees and asylum seekers in Wales has seen considerable success, and the partners involved in the campaign thank the party leaders and candidates in Wales for demonstrating such support for our aims.

The 5 Pledges

  1. Welcome people seeking safety from persecution
  2. Empower refugees to rebuild their lives
  3. Provide fair and equal access to services
  4. Protect children and young people
  5. Develop a strong evidence base

The first pledge was comprehensively delivered by all four main parties. Each avoided negative images of asylum and immigration and such political leadership deserves to be welcomed.

More information about the remaining four pledges can be found in the manifesto, which can be downloaded here as the Manifesto PDF .

We will shortly be hoping to publish good news on the implementation of the four outstanding commitments, following the publication of the Welsh Assembly Government's Refugee Inclusion Strategy.
